Wild Zebra
Wild Zebra... Truly an amazing dance performance by a troupe of dancers from Shanghai Oriental City Dance Troupe with 80 strong cast of dancers. This was my first time attending this kind of thing in Istana Budaya and it was an eye opener attending an "Opera House".
Suprisingly, the attendees all made it into the auditorium around 8.30pm where the show supposed to start and it started around 8.45pm. Well, at least it's not starting at 9pm because of the attendees. At least this time they made the effort to come earlier instead of our normal malaysian "Time"
"A murderous desire for immortality
leads to the ultimate sacrifice
in the name of love ..."
That's the main theme for the show. Since today is the last day for the show, I guess I can indulge you all on what's the story about.
It all started when the Fox spirit told the Queen Bear that she will be able to live a long and happy life ruling other animals under her kingdom. But, to be able to do that, she needs to create or rather make a mantle using 100 wild zebras' skins and the last wild zebra is being readied to be skinned. And yet, one of the Queen Bear's beloved friend/animal is the Princess Zebra that freed the Wild Zebra from captivity; so this means that the mantle cannot be completed. Both of them fled to the "Plains of forever" where all wild zebras live and they had quite a good time there.
While they were "enjoying" in the Plains of forever, Queen Bear got ill and the Spirit Fox managed to convince every other animals in the kingdom to hunt for Wild Zebra and Princess Zebra heard the rumours fled to warn Wild Zebra about it. While searching for Wild Zebra, she was caught by an arrow and decided to sacrifice herself in the name of love to free Wild Zebra from its predicament.
"You must get the last zebra skin... animals, to war!!!", Spirit Fox said
"No!!! Please dont die, my love"
With the last zebra skinned obtained, the Queen Bear healed herself and set to rule the animal kingdom again~
